"Immanence" consists of seven duets freely improvised by Ursel Schlicht and Denman Maroney. They were performed on Maroney´s 1918 Steinway O in the Lutheran Temple of Durfort in France April 2023. Thanks to Marianne Prat, this beautiful instrument is now housed in that church. Recorded on the third day of Schlicht´s visit to Durfort, the tracks played are exactly as presented including the silences between.

Colleagues and friends for decades in New York, and now each living in Europe, they reunited for a rare live appearance with Hans Tammen´s Third Eye Orchestra in New York in December 2022. They shared a piano, arranged the parts to play the entire concert four hands for the first time. They enjoyed the process and decided to meet again in Durfort, a small village in the Gard in Occitanie in France where Denman Maroney currently lives with his wife, Erin Martin. 

While both Maroney and Schlicht are known for extensive use of the inside of the piano, here you only hear the sound of the keys. They switch places every so often, so each can be heard on bass and treble. Denman Maroney is an expert of "temporal harmony” - composing and improvising in multiple tempos and rhythms, some of which are interwoven into these improvisations. 

Maroney created the track titles from letters in the artists' names. The drawing is made by Leonie Schlicht, it shows the village of Durfort seen from the roof terrace of Maroney's house.
